N has been going back and forth between being sick and then not. So the apothecary in me has stepped out, and I’ve started my work on finding natural remedies to stave off illnesses. If one’s body is strong overall, the question of being sick often does not arise.

This is a list of immune boosting herbal supplements essential in every family’s health cabinet. These are recommendations from his pediatrician and from various other medical sources. Use your good judgment before using any or all of them.

Echinacea: It comes from the daisy family and has been used to boost the immune system and helps treat urinary tract infections, vaginal yeast (candida) infections, ear infections (also known as otitis media), athlete’s foot, sinusitis, hay fever (also called allergic rhinitis), as well as slow-healing wounds, pain, and reduce inflammations.

St. John’s Wort: It comes from the class Magnoliopsida. It helps treat common physical and behavioral symptoms associated with premenstrual cycle.

Vitamin C: A water soluble vitamin plays a crucial role in overall health. It helps fight off cold and flu like symptoms. It is one of the most important vitamins that needs to be taken on a regular basis.

Vitamin D: For those of us who do not get the much needed soaking in the sun, this essential vitamin helps build bone strength and fights cold and other diseases.

Flaxseed: Natures golden elixir is rich in Omega- 3 fatty acids, and promotes bone health, provides protection against heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. It reduces high blood pressure, cholesterol and is rich in beneficial fiber. It fends off dry eyes, promotes healthy looking skin, and reduces the risk of breast cancer.

Arnica: It belongs to the sunflower family. It is used topically for a wide range of conditions, including bruises, sprains, muscle aches, wound healing, superficial phlebitis, rheumatic pain, inflammation from insect bites, and swelling due to fractures.

Homeopathy remedies we use:

Bicombination – 6: are pellets used to cure cold, cough and catarah. For adults, the dosage is 4 pellets and for kids under 4, it is 2 pellets at an interval of 4 hrs. We use this until the symptoms clear.

    • I’m glad I was able to share it. Popping antibiotics when it is not really needed is not something I like doing. I try to find ways to treat my body with some gentle love and care :-). I hope it helps.
